Braking:
• Practice vehicle stability control on a long, flat, straight of snow pack.
Slides & Skids:
• Practice controlling your car and learn accident avoidance on a flat track and hill terrain.
Putting it all together:
• Control your car on a flat track and hill terrain: starting, stopping, and sliding.

3. Maintaining Your Vehicle

What you need to know:
Tires:
• Tire pressure
• Treads
• How to change a flat
Batteries:
• When should they be changed?
• How to jump start your car

Course Details

• Course will be held Monday thru Friday, January 14 through March 14, 2008
• Cost: $395.00 per course (Minimum sign-up of 6 students per course) or $295.00 if registered before February 15, 2008
• Payment must be made in full at time of registration to reserve a course position. Make checks payable to AMP

AMP Winter Driving Course class includes:

• 4 hours of driving with 1 hour of classroom instruction
• Each student will drive a minimum of 2 hours
• Vehicles are provided for the course with 2 students per car
• Course begins at 10:00am and end at 3:00pm
• Drivers should arrive 30 minutes (9:30am) early to check in
• Drivers must have a current driver’s license
• Courses are dependent on weather conditions
• Courses can be cancelled for any reason and a full refund will be given
• No food or drink is available at the track
• Dress appropriate to the weather condition

Biography of Coaches

Tom Dalessandri

Aspen Driving Experience
Tom is the founder and current CEO of Colorado Protective Services, a security, consulting, and instructional services company based near Aspen, Colorado.

He is a 30 year veteran of law enforcement and 20 year lead driving instructor of emergency services vehicle operations. Tom has developed programs of instruction for police officers, fire and EMS drivers as well as professional carriers, including bus, van and other heavy transport vehicles.

Tom is the author of a course of instruction designed for carriers of fire and foresty crews who travel across country to mitigate and attack wild land fires.

Tom demonstrates in his training that any vihicle can be safe to operate if the driver is given the proper instruction and develops an awareness of the vehicle's capabilities as well as it's limitations.

Grady Olson

Managed TG&Y Family centers in Kansas and Oklahoma from 1970 through 1979 and operated several pizza restaurants in Omaha, Nebraska 1979 through 1983.

Held various sales positions with several major trucking companies in Omaha, Nebraska and Houston, Texas from 1983 through 1991.

Owned and operated a successful small trucking company in Houston, Texas from 1991 until the end of 2003. Business had revenues of approximately $10 million at its peak. Sold the business as of 12/31/03.

Began racing career in 1993 by taking Skip barber's three day racing course. Raced Skip Barber spec Racers on amateur racing circuit from 1993 until 1996. Joined the Aspen Racing and Sports Car Club in 1997. Currently developing winter driving course and a summer racing program that will be offered at the club.

Janet Guthrie

Janet Guthrie is the first woman ever to compete in teh Indianapolis 500 (May 1977)and the Daytona 500 (February 1977). She finished 9th at Indy in 1978 with a team she formed, owned and managed herself. This remains the highest finish by a woman in the Indianapolis 500. She set fastest time of day at Indianapolis on May 7 and May 22, 1977.

Guthrie is the only woman to earn top-ten starting positions and post top-ten finishes in both of this country's top series, Indy cars and Winston Cup.

Prior to Indianapolis, Guthrie had 13 years of esperience in sports car racing, including first under-2-Liter Prototype (1970) and first GT6 (1967) in the Sebring 12-Hour race. She was a pilot and flight instructor and an aerospace engineer. Her helmet and driver's suit are in the Smithsonian Institiution. She is a charter member of the Women's Sports Foundation International Women's Sports Hall of Fame.
