Lift Access Ski Descents

Min. Age: 14 years old

Backcountry Skiing
Description
Tired of hunting for fresh powder in the ski areas? Try skiing/ snowboarding through untracked powder with one of Aspen Expeditions AMGA/IFMGA certified or trained guides. In Aspen, Colorado we offer some of the finest backcountry ski descents with some runs greater than 4000 vertical feet. The day consists of a privately guided lift serviced ski descents off of Aspen Mt., Aspen Highlands, Snowmass Mt. or into the Backcountry Wilderness. The tour depends on snow conditions and level of skiing/ riding of the individual or group.
Ideal For
Off-piste skiing is compatible for skiers or snowboarders. Ages 14 & older are recommended. Intermediate to advanced level of skiing or riding ability. No previous backcountry skiing/snowboarding experience necessary!
Fitness Level
Moderate level of physical condition. The tour involves a ridgeline traverse and skiing/ riding descent through some of the best powder in Colorado.

Backcountry Ski Tour

Backcountry Skiing
Description
Get off the track and on the trail! Experience the tranquility and relaxation of skiing though the wilderness on a guided tour with one of Aspen Expeditions’ AMGA certified or trained guides. We will take you and friends or family on a privately guided 4-6 hour tour on un-groomed backcountry trails such as Express Creek, Hunter Creek Wilderness, and Buttermilk Meadows.
Ideal For
Any individual or group looking to spend a spectacular day in the wilderness. Downhill skiers, snowboarders, and cross country enthusiasts are all welcome! No previous backcountry skiing/ snowboarding experience necessary!
Fitness / Skiing Level
Moderate level of physical condition. Cross country or intermediate level of skiing is recommended.

Hut Trip
Going on a guided hut trip with friends or family is a memorable adventure to a wilderness winter wonderland. Most huts are situated right at treeline in pristine & secluded environments.

With no backcountry experience necessary our AMGA trained or certified guide can take you on one of our winter hut trip adventures. We will outfit you and prepare you for 2 day or multi-day hut trip adventure.

In Colorado we schedule private hut trips to either the Braun or 10th Mountain huts located in the White River National Forest surrounding Aspen, CO.

In Chamonix, France we schedule a multi-day hut to hut ski tour to Zermatt, Switzerland (the 'haute route') or we can arrange a privately guided trip.

Ice Climbing

Ice Climbing

Ice climbing is a unique and exhilirating climbing experience. With no experience necessary our AMGA trained or certified guides can take you out for a day of ice climbing. We will outfit you and show you how to use the techical tools.

Just 10 minutes outside of Aspen is an ideal area for the first time ice climber. In a remarkably sunny spot we will introduce you to the techniques and gear and take you up a frozen waterfall.

For the more advanced climber we can take you to secluded multi-pitch routes near Marble or Redstone, less than one hour from Aspen. We can also take you to famous ice falls around Vail, CO.

Alpine Mountaineering

Backcountry Skiing
Learn mountaineering and technical climbing skills to give you the self-confidence, knowledge and mountain awareness to climb almost any mountain in the world. Topics covered are:
  • Snow Climbing - Use of ice axe and crampons, snow/ice anchors, crevasse rescue, short roping, etc.
  • Self Rescue - Advanced techniques for experienced climbers.
  • Rope handling skills, route finding, orienteering, weather assessment, etc.
  • Aid Climbing - Big wall aid techniques, hauling systems, bivouac training, etc.
  • Sport Climbing - Emphasis on gymnastic movement on rock.

Paragliding

Min. Age: 8 years old

Aspen Expeditions Paragliding
Experience the thrill & freedom of free flight with a tandem paragliding flight over Aspen or Snowmass. With no prior experience necessary you can SOAR over Aspen or Snowmass, Colorado with USHGA certified tandem pilots.

Tandem Flights
Tandem flights are scheduled 4 times a day in the summer and the winter, weather dependent. The USHGA paragliding pilot will give you a flight briefing at launch and put you into a comfortable harness. With just a few running steps you and your pilot will take off the side of the hill like a bird. You sit in front, the pilot behind you.
Summer/Early Fall Flight Schedule
Flights are scheduled at 7:00, 8:30, 10:30 a.m. & 5 p.m. The experience includes the ride up Aspen Mountain to one of the launch areas. The average paragliding experience lasts approximately 2 hours.
Winter Flight Schedule
Flights are taken off of both Aspen Mountain (Ajax) and Snowmass Mountain. It is recommended to schedule your flight time early on during your vacation in Aspen or Snowmass.... just in case you have to reschedule due to weather.
